Welcome to Skelwood Kabin, a newly constructed log cottage nestled in the serene wilderness of Haliburton, Ontario. This picturesque retreat boasts four bedrooms, two and a half bathrooms, and is adorned with rustic charm.

Skelwood Kabin is special for its serene, boat-free lake — perfectly still and peaceful. You can swim anywhere you like, with no boat traffic, just the sound of nature and the calm of the water all to yourself.

We kindly ask that guests keep noise to a minimum, especially in the evenings. While the property feels very private, sound does travel easily across the lake. If you're looking for a peaceful escape, you're in the right place! If your group tends to be on the louder side, this might not be the best fit, as we’re committed to being respectful neighbors. Excessive noise and disrespectful behaviour will not be tolerated.

The layout accommodates 8 people maximum including children and infants. As per the Highlands East By-law, we are only allowed accommodating this size of group.

Living Area:

A grand rustic stone fireplace serves as the centerpiece of the living room, featuring a 55-inch TV and a cozy gas fireplace to keep you warm during cooler months.
Stay connected with high-speed Starlink internet, and enjoy popular streaming services including Netflix and Disney+.

Kitchen:

The gourmet kitchen is fully equipped with all the essentials for preparing gourmet meals.
Complimentary amenities include coffee, tea, olive oil, and basic spices.
In-house chef services are available upon request and are highly praised by our guests!
Accommodation:

Our cottage comfortably sleeps up to 8 guests across four bedrooms:

Bedroom 1: King bed with ensuite bathroom (main floor)
Bedroom 2: King bed (upstairs)
Bedroom 3: Two queen beds (upstairs)
Bedroom 4: King bed (downstairs)
All bed linens and bath towels are provided for your convenience. The cottage also features two full bathrooms and one half bath. An additional outdoor shower is located on the lower patio area (seasonal availability, closed during winter). Complimentary shampoo, conditioner, and body wash are included.

Outdoor Features:

Enjoy our spacious, covered porch that provides a perfect setting for relaxation, rain or shine. The bottom deck remains sheltered, ensuring comfort even on rainy days.
A short path leads you to our tranquil lake, where you can bask in the sun from noon until sunset on our 14x20 floating dock. The lake offers excellent fishing opportunities right from the dock. We provide two single kayaks and two canoes, along with eight adult life jackets and one child life jacket.
Note: The area around the dock is shallow (3-5 feet deep) with large slate rocks. You’re welcome to jump in in, just be sure to use caution and always put safety first.

Unwind in the sauna and hot tub, then cool off with the outdoor shower while enjoying the sunset.
Relax in the hammock and let the gentle breeze lull you to sleep.
Gather around the fire pit, listen to the crackling flames and the calls of loons, and gaze at the starry sky.

Enjoy peace of mind with our built-in home generator, ensuring uninterrupted power and comfort no matter the weather.

Winter Access & Experience at the Cabin
Please note: A 4x4 vehicle with good winter tires is required to access the cottage during winter months. We are located on a private road that is both narrow and hilly—a photo of the steeper hill is included at the end of the album for reference.

By late January (weather dependent), the lake typically freezes over, creating a magical backdrop for winter walks or snowshoeing adventures. Please note: We cannot guarantee the safety of the ice at any time—any lake activities are done at your own risk.

After a day of fresh air, warm up with a blanket and a cup of mulled wine by the outdoor fire pit, or head inside to cozy up by the gas fireplace with a mug of hot cocoa and your favourite board games.

And if you're in the mood to explore, you'll find a variety of charming restaurants and shops open year-round just a short drive away!
